Evalu-8 Featured in CIOB Construction Management Discussing Mental Health Support on Site

Evalu-8 has been featured in Construction Management, the CIOB publication, in an article asking whether mental health support actually reaches everyone working on a construction site.

The article, “Does mental health support reach everyone on site?”, looks beyond permanent employees to subcontractors, agency workers and self-employed tradespeople, who may miss information shared through company emails or internal systems.

Someone working on a site for only a few weeks might attend an induction, then hear nothing more about where to get help. If they begin struggling, would they know who to speak to? And would they feel comfortable asking?

The article considers simple ways to make that information easier to find, including toolbox talks, welfare area notices and QR codes. Supervisors also need to know where to direct someone who raises a concern, without being expected to provide counselling themselves.

Another point is record keeping. Businesses should be able to check whether support information has reached workers, but that doesn’t mean asking people to share personal details about their mental health.

Evalu-8 shares a six-question Construction Mental Health Reach Test to help contractors look at how well their existing arrangements work for everyone on site.

For construction businesses, it’s worth looking at the process from a new starter’s point of view. If someone arrived tomorrow, would they be told what support is available, where to find it and who they could approach? Those answers matter just as much for temporary workers as for permanent staff when they need it the most.
