Evalu-8 has been featured in letsrecycle.com with an article looking at what waste operators need to check before reopening a site after a fire.

Written by Josh McNicholas from Evalu-8 EHS and published on 3 September 2026, “When is a waste site ready to restart after a fire?” follows the fire at LondonEnergy’s Wembley waste transfer station.

The fire service handed the site back to the operator on 31 August. Nobody was injured, but that didn’t mean work could simply start again the following morning. There could still be damage to buildings, machinery and access routes, along with questions about what caused the fire.

Josh sets out six questions operators should ask before restarting. Has the site been inspected properly? Are any areas still unsafe? Do risk assessments or the fire prevention plan need changing? And has someone checked that outstanding work has actually been completed?

There is also the practical issue of telling people what has changed. Staff returning after the closure, contractors arriving to carry out repairs and drivers making deliveries all need clear instructions. They shouldn’t have to find out about a closed route or damaged equipment when they arrive.

Keeping a record of inspections, decisions and repairs gives managers something to refer back to, especially when several teams are involved.

Evalu-8 EHS can be used to record inspections, review risk assessments and follow up on corrective actions, so the information isn’t spread across emails, notebooks and separate spreadsheets when it is needed most.
