A personal post about LGBTQ+ workplace equality from a member of our team

πŸŒˆπŸ“’ #WorkplaceEqualityMatters πŸŒˆπŸ“’

Hi there, fellow LGBTQ+ individuals! πŸ‘‹ It’s John from Evalu-8 and today, I want to open up and share some of the potential hurdles that we, as members of the LGBT+ community, can encounter in the workplace.

I have worked at Evalu-8 for coming up on just 2 years now and I really enjoy my role working in the Technical Support department, in which I get the joy of making our customers happy and content each and every day while using our system. 😊

This is a bit of a personal post, so strap yourselves in and let’s dive into some of our shared experiences.

Just before I go into the points below, I just want to voice how I am very proud and grateful to be working at a company where the below issues aren’t a problem for me and the fact that I can come into work each day and not have to face any of the below is truly heart-warming.

However, I don’t want to side track from the fact that the issues I am about to highlight below are still present in the workplace today and there are people out there that still have to experience these every day unfortunately. πŸŒπŸ’”

1️) Discrimination: It pains me to admit that even in this day and age, discrimination based on our sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression is still prevalent. People in our community still face unequal treatment, exclusion, and hurtful comments that can shake our confidence.

It’s times like this when everyone in the workplace can play their part in making sure that our LGBTQ+ colleagues never feel excluded or uncomfortable. If we stand strong together and demand workplaces where love, respect, and acceptance reign supreme, it will allow us all to be our most authentic selves and feel comfortable in our place of work each and every day, no matter what your sexuality or gender identity is. β€οΈπŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’œ

2️) Lack of Visibility: I’ll be honest, it’s not always easy to be open about who we truly are in the professional realm, especially if you work in an environment that doesn’t feel supportive and accepting of differences.

The fear of prejudice or negative consequences often forces us to hide our true selves. But if we all work together, we can create workplaces where our authenticity is celebrated, where we don’t have to second-guess our every move or filter our words, and where our voices are heard, valued, and cherished. πŸ—£οΈπŸŒˆ

3) Career Advancement: Climbing the professional ladder can be an uphill battle for us. Some of us face invisible barriers that hinder our progress. It’s disheartening when promotions and opportunities seem out of reach simply because of our sexual orientation or gender identity.

We all deserve equal chances to shine, and it’s about time we advocate for transparent and inclusive promotion processes. Together, we can break through these barriers and pave the way for future generations. πŸ“ˆβœ¨

4) Mental Health: Let’s talk about the toll that constantly hiding our true identities or dealing with discrimination can take on our mental well-being. It’s not just the stress, but the emotional weight we carry every day.

We deserve workplaces that prioritize our mental health, where we can find solace and support in our colleagues and bosses. Creating safe workplaces that allow us to be open about our true selves and not have to worry about the potential repercussions will ultimately make sure everyone in the workplace feel comfortable about opening up about our differences whether they are LGBTQ+ related or not. Together let’s build a community that uplifts each other and celebrates our diverse journeys. πŸ§ πŸ’š

5️) Inclusive Policies: We need policies that protect us from discrimination, harassment, and bias. Policies that ensure we are not just seen but respected and cherished. By advocating for these policies, we can shape a workplace culture that embraces our diversity, where we can flourish and thrive authentically, it will also help pave the way for the future generations where hopefully they can work in places where they feel respected and seen. Together, we can make a difference. πŸ“œβœ…

So, to my fellow LGBTQ+ people out there this is just a post to let you know that you are never alone in your journey and even though sometimes it may seem like you are, just remember that there are good people out there that will help and support you through your journey, and if you are in a workplace currently where you face any of the above issues I have highlighted just remember to never change who you are to suit someone else, or to make them feel more comfortable. You deserve to work in an environment where you can thrive and express your true, authentic self. πŸ¦‹πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ
