In response to the Taylor Review of workers’ rights, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). Has released new guidelines to help employers and employees calculate holiday pay. They insist the responsibility to pay correctly and raise awareness over entitlement falls on the employer.
A BEIS spokesperson said: “We want to see more businesses getting holiday pay right for their workers, helping to maintain a fair working environment for all. The onus is on you, as a responsible employer, to check your workers are receiving the correct amount.” In addition a BEIS poll highlights 81% of employees felt productive, happy and refreshed after taking a paid holiday. Providing every reason to ensure employees receive what they are entitled to, but it seems confusion is still abundant.
A survey by Kantar to 2,000 employees shows 50% of participants thought employees on zero-hours contract were not entitled to holiday pay. Alarmingly 52% thought they had to work for three months before being entitled to holiday pay. In addition the “Unpaid Britain” report (2017). Found 1.8m employees did not receive the minimum holiday pay they were entitled to.
In conclusion, legally, each hour worked accrues an entitlement to paid holiday. With the majority of employees entitled to 5.6 weeks off, paid, per year. Therefore Zero-hours contracts, agency workers and irregular hour contracts are included in this.
Evalu-8’s self-service holiday feature incorporates a holiday calculator based on the employees working patterns and working hours. This includes casual workers. Above all the employee’s individual dashboard provides a summary of holiday entitlement, days taken and remaining. Evalu-8 enables you to control every aspect of employee’s holidays. This includes whether the holiday request requires authorisation, who can authorise them and restrictions around how many employees from a particular team, site, department or role can be off at any given time.

However, just to be sure you know what this means and to be completely transparent, 99.9% in normal English means that the service will be down a total of and no more than 8 hours & 45 minutes a year.
We take our role as custodian/guardian/gate keeper of your data extremely seriously. We have multiple backup systems in place to protect your data, please see below:

A recent study conducted by Opinion Matters, on behalf of the Open University, has shown 75% of UK workers do not know what skills their employer requires of them. In total 2,000 workers were polled. It was also revealed 25% of workers did not know how they could upskill themselves at work.
Above all the results have prompted calls for employers to improve communication, learning and development investment. As well as information provided to employees regarding what is expected of them in their current and future roles.
In conclusion it is accepted employers are investing vast sums in an attempt to address the skills gaps, however it is felt more can be done to train and develop employees to support them in coping with the evolving requirements of their current or future roles.
Responding to the findings, CIPD skills policy advisor Lizzie Crowley said: “The fact employees don’t know what skills they need points to the need for employers to get a lot better at communicating to their workforce what skills are required to enable them to progress within their current organisation.”
In October 2018, CIPD published research that found almost half of UK workers reported being mismatched to their roles. With 37 per cent over-skilled and 12 per cent under-skilled. Nearly a quarter (24%) of employees had not received any training in the last 12 months.
The worst affected were part time, older, self-employed or low-wage workers. The study also revealed line managers were often viewed as gatekeepers to development opportunities and considered not to have the time or experience to fulfil their roles effectively.
A separate study by the British Chamber of Commerce found businesses face significant and increasing difficulties in recruitment. This spans across all sectors with a skills shortage exacerbated by a lack of applications from EU nationals. This only serves to strengthen the argument that businesses need to focus on the education and development of employees.
The evaluation feature within Evalu-8, a cloud-based employee management tool, will objectively assess an employee’s skill level within a particular role. This will remove the ambiguity as to what skills are expected.
A traffic light-based report then pinpoints the precise areas of strength and weakness. This will enable the manager to deliver coaching or training in the specific areas they are required. Above all Evalu-8 will inform the employee of exactly what skills, knowledge and behaviours are expected in their role. In addition it will highlight how employees stand against this criteria. And how they compare to their colleagues that are doing the same job.

After the launch of our new staff rota feature we thought we would share with you, the good practice guidelines for shift design from the Health and Safety Executive, so here it is:
Applying, where reasonably practicable, good practice guidelines will help reduce the risks that workers are exposed to by shift working:
We hope we found that useful? The shift rota feature allows you to design shifts and publish them to your employees. Should there be a shift they can not attend they can inform you via Evalu-8. Likewise if you have any open shifts up for grabs, employees can request to claim those, and you will receive a notification.
Whilst the shift rota has been designed with simplicity and ease of use in mind, should you require and guidance or support our friendly team are waiting to help.
